27 injured in explosion in Dnepropetrovsk

At least 27 people, many of them children, were injured in a series of explosions in the Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk. A preliminary investigation of terrorism is currently being initiated.

The first explosion occurred at a tramway stop just before noon, local time. Disintegrant was placed in a trash can and, according to the Ministry of Disaster wounded 13th

A good half hour later we saw the next explosion near a school, and eleven people, mostly children, were injured. Two more explosions have been confirmed and in Dnipropetrovsk there are rumors about several more terrorist acts coming.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor has initiated an investigation of terrorist acts, but there are yet no known motive for the attacks and who may be responsible is also not known. President Viktor Yanukovych called the events a challenge for the country and said that the best investigators should investigate the crimes.

Terrorist acts are rare in Ukraine, and in only a month Ukraine along with Poland will host the European Football Championship. But no games will be played in Dnipropetrovsk.

The city is home to the country’s former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko who last fall was sentenced to seven years in prison for abuse of power in an, of the world harshly criticized trial. Now, she is being tried again, on suspicion of economic crimes, and tomorrow morning the trial of her is resumed.

From her party, Bjut, is expressed today the suspicion that the explosions in Dnipropetrovsk would be a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the case against Tymoshenko. SR; Ekot

Luckily there seems to be no dead. But it is despicable when the target is civilians, and children on top of that! But I doubt that a government diversion would be aimed at children, however crooked Yanukovych is. Isn’t Ukraine one of the coalition members in Afghanistan? Then it could just as well have happened in my country. But what did Viktor Yanukovych mean when he called the events a challenge for the country and said that the best investigators should investigate the crimes. Does he really want to believe that Bjut, and extended perhaps Yulia Tymoshenko, is behind the terrorist acts? In this case one can probably use “Occhams razor” and say that the simplest explanation is probably the most likely one. If Ukraine is a part of the coalition in Afghanistan, then it is most likely Islamist’s behind the terrorist crimes. Can any one of you Ukrainians confirm this?
