Parliamentarians denied visiting Tymoshenko

Two Swedish MPs who went to Ukraine was refused to visit the imprisoned oppsitions leader Yulia Tymoshenko.

Walburga Habsburg Douglas, and Asa Lindstam, went to Ukraine to meet with Yulia Tymoshenko.

– Both me and Walburga are very interested in issues of human rights. Ukraine will take over the OSCE Chairmanship, and when they do we want human rights to work, says Ms Lindstam to Always News.

The motive for the authorities to abolish the meeting with Tymoshenko was explained in part with the application to see her was not properly filled in, an explanation that Asa Lindstam do not consider as acceptable.

– It was not a good enough reason, she says to Always News.

It was together with Tymoshenko’s daughter as the Swedes this Monday went to the prison outside of Kharkiv, where Tymoshenko is serving a seven-year prison sentence for abuse of power, following a trial which last fall received harsh criticism from, among others the EU.

Big question mark about Tymoshenko’s health are raised, after alarming reports from her lawyers.

– We are not here in part as belonging to any particular party or because we endorse the Tymoshenko party. We are here because she is a parliamentarian and a woman and need our support, says Ms Lindstam to TT. Quote; Always News and Ekot
